  • Hypothesis

When I cut an onion, I will not cry if I wet my arms.

  • Testing

We cut onions to see if we would cry. Next we cut onions with our arms wet to see if we would still cry. 11 people cried while cutting the onions, even with their arms wet.

  • Conclusion

Most people cry when cutting onions, even if their arms are wet.

Bobby - room 210

  • Hypothesis

  • Testing

If you cut an onion, people usually cry. If you chew gum while cutting an onion, you will not cry because I did it and didn't cry. I tried it with someone else cutting it while I stood next to the onion, I still didn't cry.

  • Conclusion

So that proves if you chew gum while cutting an onion, you won't cry.

Sean - room 212

  • Hypothesis

Putting water on your arms prevents you from crying while cutting the onion.

  • Testing

My testing method was to put water on my arms and cut it with a knife. I used hot water from the sink on my arms. I took a regular cooking knife to cut the onion. I cut the onion on a cutting board. Y results are that my eyes burned. My hands smelled like onions. Putting water on my arms stopped me from crying. It did not take away the scent or the burn in my eyes. It was fun cutting the onions.

  • Conclusion

From putting water on your arms it prevents you from crying while cutting the onions.

Mikayla - room 212

  • Hypothesis

What will make you not to cry when you cut an onion?

  • Testing

I will test my hypothesis by chewing gum and wetting my elbows and arms while I am cutting to figure out if it will still burn my eyes. My method is to peel the onion. Next, I put it on a flat cutting surface. After that, I chopped up the onion into small pieces. When I cut open the onion while chewing gum, nothing happened at first, but then slowly it stung and made me cry. I wet my elbows and arms. When I tried this experiment it didn't stop me from crying. What happened as soon as I cut that onion open, I started to cry from the burn.

  • Conclusion

When I did those two things, (chewing gum or wetting my arms and elbows), none of them worked to stop me from crying.
